5 Ways to Organize Your Fridge to Eat Healthier

Since changing my lifestyle to a more nutritious and active one, I’ve had more positive and happier days. One of the first steps I made to stay on the track was updating the fridge. A fridge makeover was just what I needed to eliminate unhealthy snacking and make smarter food choices. Below are 5 ways your fridge can keep you nourished.

1. Healthier Alternatives

The first thing I like to do to maintain a balanced fridge is to buy a healthier stock. I load up on my favorite fruits and veggies like apples, oranges, strawberries, bananas, avocado, carrots, and broccoli. I’ll also grab a few whole grains; protein like eggs, chicken and lean ground turkey; and a pack of my Activia® Fruit Fusion yogurt which comes with a delicious fruit fusion at the bottom. I like it a lot because it has good nutrients like probiotics, calcium, and vitamin D.

When I’m craving comfort foods like chocolate, I don’t deprive myself completely. Instead, I put them in a plastic container and hide them behind my healthier stuff so they’re not as top-of-mind.

2. Strategic Organization

I take time to arrange my fridge in a neat and tidy manner. First I make each shelf a unit. So, I’ll have fruits and snacks on one or two shelves; the deli meats in the drawer; water bottles, juices, and salad dressings on the side, and etc. I store all the fruits, pre-cut vegetables in a plastic container and stack containers on top of each other so I can easily see what’s inside each one. I also put leftover meals in clear storage bins just in case I want to take it to work the next day.

3. Have Quick Protein on Hand

Having quick protein on hand like boiled eggs has saved me so much time when preparing meals. I’ll boil a bunch of eggs the night before the start of the work week, and store them in a container. They’re high in protein, easy to grab and go, and they’re simple to put on salads or in a breakfast wrap.

4. Make Infused Water

I purposely keep a big pitcher of fruit-infused water because it makes me want to pour a glass. I like to add citrus fruits like grapefruit and lemon slices. It looks refreshing and I stay hydrated without the loads of sugars.

5. Have a Snack Shelf

I make the middle section my snack shelf and fill it up with nourishing munchies because it’s usually where I first glance when I open the fridge. I have lots of snack options like the pre-cut veggies and fruits packed into plastic containers and of course my favorite snack, Activia Fruit Fusion Blueberry & Blackberry yogurt.
