Talk about leaving a literal trail of crumbs behind you.
Sometimes you just can’t restrain yourself from enjoying your sweet, delicious loot after the perfect heist. Oh, Hubris, you are the undoer of all.
Three alleged thieves who reportedly robbed a Build-A-Burger early Sunday morning of its cash register and its surveillance system were caught because of the trail of macaroni salad they left behind.
Seriously, even the Scooby Doo and the Mystery Gang could have solved this caper in less than an episode.
The three of the would-be robbers apparently were eating the macaroni salad so messily that they were strewing the not-quite-a-salad’s contents so consistently that a “steady trail” was left behind.
Here are a few questions: how much macaroni salad did they steal? How many calories did this crime cost?
This what the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office had to say about the robbery gone wrong on their Facebook page:
“Through the investigation, evidence was collected along the Greenway Trail leading the investigation into the Village of Mt. Morris. Found along the trail were cash register parts, surveillance system parts, rubber gloves, loose change and a steady trail of macaroni salad. It was later discovered that the suspects stole a large bowl of macaroni salad, which they took turns eating, along their escape route.”
All three were charged with third-degree burglary, third-degree criminal mischief, and fourth-degree grand larceny, and one of them was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and criminal possession of a hypodermic instrument.
No word yet if they’ll be sentence to three consecutive food comas for their alleged crimes.
